POW! Machining Phosphor Bronze

This beauty is our Part of the Week. Let's take a look!

WHAT'S THIS?

These are some long, curved parts we recently milled from phosphor bronze.

As good as golden. (But, sadly, not actually gold.)

THAT'S COOL!

Here are some parts we milled recently that a re a good example of EMI's experience working with less common materials. In this case the customer's performance requirements drove them to spec phosphor bronze.

Phosphor bronze is an interesting alloy because it can accomplish things that more standard metals like aluminum or stainless steel. Compared to aluminum, Phosphor bronze delivers high strength, wear resistance, corrosion resistance, good electrical conductivity and it suitable for corrosive environments, such as with marine applications. Versus stainless steel, phosphor bronze offers strength with flexibility and good wear and fatigue resistance, making it a preferred choice for applications including bearings, bushings, springs and more.

These pieces are 40 inches long and required extremely tight tolerances across the part. The EMI team frequently works with a wide variety of non-typical metallic and plastic materials and did a great job with these.
