POW! Setting up to Bore a Large Diameter Stainless Steel Tube

Written by Adam Persson | Jul 14, 2025 6:00:00 PM

This beauty is our Part of the Week. Let's take a look!

WHAT'S THIS?

These pictures show how we recently set up to run a large bore tube onto horizontal lathes.

Totally tubular, dude.

THAT'S COOL!

This stainless steel tube is 14 inches in diameter by 70 inches long. Here we are moving it into place, taking care to make sure all EMI employees will be safe while doing so.

We ran this on one of our two Proto Trak horizontal lathes, both of which can turn parts up to 24 inches in diameter by 70 inches long.

It's always fun to let the bigger stuff strut it's stuff, and for this job we used a 16 inch chuck.

Each week we will feature something we've been working on. We hope you'll find these posts informative.
