The Part of the Week series usually features examples of the finished parts. This week let's take a look at the other end of the process.
THAT'S COOL!
Once an order is placed with EMI, our procurement team works with our metal suppliers to get the raw material in-house.
Below we see a few recent arrivals, in this case steel rod and steel bar stock.
Uhh, the steel rod is on the left.
First we'll verify the dimensions (IMG_1403). Here we're checking the diameter of the rod. And if the customer needs it, we'll also use our handheld XRF to verify the alloy. [LINK]
Confirming the gauge, but would look cooler if the shades were on his face.
Next we'll get them on the chop saw to cut them to size for the machinists to work on.
Mmm, chop saw.
A final check on length and these are ready to be turned into pins.
