Thin Wall 5-Axis Part

This beauty is our Part of the Week. Let's take a look!

WHAT'S THIS?

While all parts are beautiful in their way, this particular part really stands out.

THAT'S COOL!

This black hardcoat anodized 6061 aluminum part was created on one of our 5-axis CNC milling centers.

As you can see from the side-by-side comparison, getting to the final result required required milling out a huge amount of material, something on the order of 95% removed!

The one on the right turned into the one on the left, plus a LOT of chips.

Because the walls are quite thin relative to the size of the part, we took great care to keep it from from deforming when we drilled the many, many (many) holes. And because the part was so tall, we had to perform some special tricks to simply get the tool inside the inner chamber.

Finally, here's a short video of the final result.

Finally a caption without a food reference!
