Turn Up the Volume

Written by Adam Persson | Jun 1, 2026 2:34:40 PM

This "beauty" is our Part of the Week. Let's take a look!

WHAT'S THIS?

This tower-shaped workholding is affectionately called a "tombstone".

THAT'S COOL!

Tombstones allow EMI to set up and run larger volume production efficiently. In this case each of the tombstone's four sides holds two parts.

We can neither confirm nor deny that a body is under this tombstone.

Our Mazak HCN-4000 4-axis horizontal milling center has an attached 6-pallet changer, so our machinists can set up and automate production of 48 parts at a time for our customer, which keeps the cost low.

Hard at work "carving" the parts on the tombstone, to continue the metaphor.

The final result on the left, compared with a blank, for reference.

... and the metaphor runs its course here.

If you need higher volumes of precision parts, beyond what most machine shops can deliver efficiently, reach out and let's see if EMI can help.

Each week we will feature something we've been working on. We hope you'll find these posts informative.
