Here's an example of why understanding the intent of the designer is important to getting the final dimensions right.

 

First things first!

THAT'S COOL!

In this case the end result required both welding and machining operations before surface finishing activities.

Because the final dimensional tolerance was tight and welding operations can cause distortions, our machinists decided to perform the final turning steps after the welding.

The result: perfect measurements and alignment ... and a happy customer!
