WHAT'S THIS?
This white Ertalyte (PET-P) part goes into a drive assembly for a food machinery application.
THAT'S COOL!
The most common and commonly encountered type of PET plastic is used for plastic bottles for soft drinks, peanut butter, hand lotions, egg cartons and so on.
A sister formulation known as PET-P (also branded as "Ertalyte") is FDA approved for food-related applications for several reasons:
- High dimensional stability and strength
- Excellent machinability for precision parts
- Strong wear resistance
- Good resistance to common cleaning agents
- Low porosity and moisture absorption
While not delicious itself, this will help make delicious things.
This material's low coefficient of friction also makes it suitable for continuous motion use cases, such as bearings and gears used in mixing.
So the next time you pour out some kibble for your pet, you can thank PET-P for helping to mix the ingredients that went into Fido's meal.
