Choosing the Right Material & the Right Tool: Acetal on the Robodrills

This beauty is our Part of the Week. Let's take a look!

WHAT'S THIS?

Our team works with a huge range of plastics. In this case our customer had a special use in mind that required a plastic that delivered low surface porosity, high stiffness, low friction, and excellent dimensional stability.

THAT'S COOL!

The right choice for the application was acetal, which is a plastic type called polyoxymethylene or "POM". Happily, EMI has a long and frequent history of milling this material.

To keep costs low while meeting a tight deadline, we employed our stable of six (count 'em!) The Robodrills work well with acetal and many other plastics and got the job done here.

To learn more about the many plastics we can machine for you, click over to our Materials page. And to see our 3-, 4- and 5-axis Robodrills, and the rest of our 40+ CNC machines, take a look at our Capabilities and Facilities Line Card.
