Twin Spindles, Twin Turrets: Four Times the Fun

This beauty is our Part of the Week. Let's take a look!

WHAT'S THIS?

Some parts are born glorious, some achieve glory and others have glory thrust upon them. Here's a 6061 aluminum example of the latter.

This week's POW is less about the part and more about the technology, both software and machinery, that makes it possible.

THAT'S COOL!

The first video below shows a snippet of the software mock up of the machining sequence for both sides of the part.

Each image is hand drawn by Tibetan monks. You probably thought they're rendered by the software.

In the second video we can see the multi-tasking twin spindle, twin turret mill-turn machine in action.

Burnin' the candle from both ends at once.

This machine is so sophisticated it can work on both ends of the part at the same time, or it can pass the part back and forth from one spindle to the other, flawlessly.

The final picture below shows the final product compared to the billet it was made from.
