Machining PEEK Plastic

This beauty is our Part of the Week. Let's take a look!

WHAT'S THIS?

Here is an example of 5-axis milling a piece of PEEK plastic.

A mostly circular plastic part made from PEEK plastic lying on a granite surface. The part has a large number of features including holes and fins around the outside edge.

No. this isn't a cross section of a sea urchin.

THAT'S COOL!

We're looking at a part machined from PEEK plastic.

Fins! Holes! Tiny cup holders! (Actually, this last one isn't technically true.)

We performed the work for this on of our 5-axis milling centers.

There several challenges we overcame to get to a great result, including fixturing the piece while working, protecting the delicate nature of the slender fins around the circumference, and ensuring the final outcome in had the necessary degrees of circularity and flatness.

As you can see, our talented machinists did a great job ... and, with no time for celebration, moved on to the next stimulating challenge.

ABOUT POW!

Each week we will feature something we've been working on. We hope you'll find these posts informative.
