Mill-Turning a Medical Device Part Made from Acetal Plastic

This beauty is our Part of the Week. Let's take a look!

WHAT'S THIS?

This short video shows one of the mill-turn operations we performed on a piece of acetal plastic for medical device.

Acetal is simultaneously soft and firm, much like good tofu.

THAT'S COOL!

Acetal is a soft plastic and soft materials deform easily, so machining it can be tricky, especially when tight tolerances are demanded.

This short video shows only one of the steps to get to the desired final result. In the video we can see one of our mill-turn centers adding a groove to the exterior of the acetal plastic ring.

In another operation we also added a narrow thread groove on this inner diameter, but this is not shown on this video.

The end result: a perfectly round and featured soft plastic part that goes into a medical device that helps people live better lives.

Meaningful work we are proud of.
